About Ping Pong Club
Liang, along with up to 47 other elderly ping pong players, now plays at GMAACC’s Ping Pong Club and annually competes in local tournaments.
Since 2016, seniors from the Asian American community in Malden had been searching for community space to play ping pong with each other.
In collaboration with the First Parish Church, GMAACC offers regular Ping Pong Club hours for anyone interested in learning and practicing the sport. This initiative, part of the AAPI Empowerment Project, offers a healthy, culturally relevant alternative to gambling, supporting the Greater Malden community in combating gambling addiction. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ping Pong Club has fostered a sense of community among seniors and community members facing social isolation by organizing lunches and holiday gatherings.
“Many of us are over sixty years old, and we [had] nowhere to play ping pong. This activity is really important to us because it helps with our health – our hand eye coordination, physical health, and more – as well as keeping us happy and smiling.” ” — Qixia Liang, aged 76.
Any interested ping pong players are welcome to visit the Ping Pong Club and give it a try. Sign up to be a GMAACC member to play regularly!

Support Our Community Center
“Having the Asian American Community and Cultural Center in Malden would finally give us a home, a place where our experiences and voices are acknowledged. We would finally have the opportunity to stand together, support one another, and build a stronger community.”
— Cheuk Leung Kwong, Malden Resident and GMAACC member.
