Since 2016, seniors from the Asian-American community in Malden have been searching for community space to play-ping pong with each other.
Qixia Liang, aged 76, says, “Many of us are over sixty years old, and we have nowhere to play ping-pong. This activity is really important to us because it helps with our health — our hand-eye coordination, physical health, and more — as well as keeping us happy and smiling.” Liang, along with up to twenty other elderly ping-pong players, used to play daily at the Malden Senior Center. However, a series of events led to the seniors losing their tables, and for the past four years, they have shared limited access to one ping-pong table, generously provided by the Malden Recreation Department.
Now, Liang and the other elders are excited about a new ping-pong space for them at the First Parish Church. But we need support keeping the space free and accessible for them — help us by donating money or your time as a volunteer to help staff the space!
