GMAACC’s youth programming provides Malden youth leadership development to foster resilience, self-efficacy, and empowerment. Our youth have moderated panels, organized events, conducted research, and improved Malden through creative placemaking.
What we’ve accomplished:
RESEARCH:
Conducted youth-led participatory action research to assess the needs of the growing Asian-American community in Malden.
ACTION:
Organized a youth-moderated forum called “Beyond Fortune Cookies,” in partnership with Malden Reads, which educated the Malden public about the model minority myth and the issues Asian-Americans face.
Organized a youth-moderated webinar, “Malden Community Town Hall”, to discuss the surge of anti-Asian sentiment in our communities due to the coronavirus and what our communities can do to fight against it.
CREATIVE PLACEMAKING:
Partnered with Massachusetts Area Planning Council to conceptualize and create a new welcome sign for the Malden River.
